I made a corporate decision that we needed some Johnny smiles around here and I don’t want any arguments out of you people.
Is this true?
The Adam-12 formula had proven so successful that Jack Webb didn’t tinker with it when casting Emergency! Kevin Tighe was hired to play Roy DeSoto, the veteran firefighter/paramedic who took rookie Johnny Gage (Randolph Mantooth) under his wing at the beginning of the series. The dark-haired, handsome Mantooth bore a striking resemblance to Kent McCord’s Jim Reed, but Tighe’s naturally auburn hair had to be bleached strawberry blond in the early seasons so that his look was more reminiscent of Milner’s Pete Malloy. By the final season, Tighe was allowed to let his locks return to their natural darker color.
Rita, I saw that no one had answered this yet so I thought I’d post it here. Hope you don’t mind. : )
Some info about Kevin Tighe and his hair:
”Jack Webb sensed that this toothy actor (Kevin Tighe) was a natural for the part of Roy De Soto.” “…there was a close physical similarity between the team of Tighe and the previously signed Mantooth with Marty Milner and Kent McCord, stars of Webb’s Adam 12.” Once Tighe was hired he was “ordered by Webb to have his… hair cut short.. and dyed a Milner-like reddish hue” (Saturday Night Celebrity, TV Guide Aug. 3,1974)
I’ve seen a few people ask about this around the internet and comment on how Kevin looked different in the first two seasons compared to later on, yet they weren’t sure which was his real hair color because the strawberry blonde looked so natural on him. His natural hair was in fact the darker auburn, which I think suited him best. Although the strawberry color was pretty nice. Hell, his hair is grey now and I still think he looks pretty damn good! <3
Kevin’s hair- Season 1 (left) and Season 6 (right)
Ok, as far as Kevin looking like Martin Milner, I never really saw any resemblance. They were both ridiculously good looking, but aside from that and the fact they had similar coloring, (both had pale skin, freckles and naturally reddish hair,) I really don’t see a likeness. Do any of you guys?
Then again, I never thought Randy Mantooth and Kent McCord looked anything alike either. And I sill don’t understand trying to pass off Roy as being much older than Johnny when the two actors were only a year apart in age. To me, it always felt like Johnny and Roy were about the same age on the show, unlike with Pete and Jim where you had an obvious age difference between the two actors. That’s been my perception, for whatever it’s worth.
Anyway, just thought I’d try to post an answer for you since I knew I had that article somewhere. : )
Q:I just have to ask, where have you been the whole time I've been on tumblr? Your stuff is so funny. I just have to look through your whole blog during school. P.s.- I'm a fellow emergency! (If you couldn't tell) and I must say that I'm glad to find another fan.
Awww. *blushes*. Why thank you. That’s awfully nice of you to say. : )I appreciate the support and it’s always great to meet other Emergency! fans on Tumblr and anywhere, really. I am happy to hear you’re enjoying the silly nonsense I attempt to pass off as a blog. I hope you will continue to enjoy it and feel free to hit me up for any screenshot requests or related needs. Thanks again! -R
Q:Request: Could you make a parody from Firehouse Four? (*coughs* that might happen to be one of my fave episodes) thanks!!!! :D
But of course! Hope you like. : )
Q:Do u do any E fanfic or art?
I have done a little of both. I’ve been writing most of my life, so I’ve done a few fanfics. Mostly slash involving Johnny and Roy. Nothing super-graphic. Mainly comedy, actually (I’m a comedy writer, or should I say, want to be, if you can’t tell) I’m kind of shy about posting stuff. I had a bad experience on fanfic site and I need to get my nerves back. It’s funny, I can send my shit out to all kinds of television shows in town with confidence (even get rejected lol) but when it comes to my peers on the internet, I get really, really shy.
As far as art, I’ve been drawing and painting my whole life too. In fact I was an art major in college before I listened to some idiot who told me I could never do anything with an art degree and I’d be better off with a degree in English. Worst decision ever. ‘Hi I have a B.A. in English…Thats’ why I’m a welder.’ (and ‘cause I make more money…that’s why) But to answer your question, yes I’ve done some fan art. I did a couple sets of Johnny and Roy for this comic book art class I’m taking. Maybe I’ll get up the nerve to share some if any interest.
Q:opinion on the E! episode The Great Crash Diet :D (if you've seen it. if not, please do.)
Indeed I have seen it and it’s up there on my list of favorites. Great episode. It deals with one of my very favorite subjects (food) and my least favorite activity (dieting) Actually, I love any episode where Chet’s trouble-making is part of the storyline. Technically, he’s not really trolling, but there were a few times where I started to wonder. For instance, do you ever see him eat any of the crap he’s trying to shove down everyone else’s throat? That’s right, you don’t. I bet he was sneaking off for pizza when everybody else was stuck eating wheat germ and sprouts or whatever he was starving them with… (continued below)
The Great Crash Diet (Season 5, episode 20)
It starts out innocently enough; guys talk about food and dieting…
…then everybody shares a laugh at Chet’s expense
But look at him…”Revenge will be mine”
Then, out of nowhere…Wet uniform contest!!!
Feast your eyes, everyone.
Judging these things is a bitch though…just look at how sexy Johnny looks in his soaked clothes; the way they cling to that long lean frame of his…. and check out the dripping wet mass of manliness on the left there, that shirt hugging his chest muscles…
I just can’t…it’s a draw.
Back at the station, Stoker is cooking; everyone’s ready to eat
But Dr. Morton is horrified
Apparently so is Chet
So he decides makes some changes in the kitchen…
And then this:
leads to this:
Johnny: “Nobody throws our food away without getting showered in pre-chewed cracker crumbs.”
Later, an exasperated Roy tries to talk some sense into Chet…
…and is offered a fig for his trouble
Roy: “That’s IT! YOU talk to him!!!”
So Dr. Morton does
But look who gets the last laugh…
Or does he?
"Here Chet, we got something for you. Taste it…"
